With confirmed cases of Avian Flu in Fairford, it is important to be vigilant and know what to do to protect domestic and wild birds.
If you have your own birds, please try to keep them inside or at least in an enclosed area/aviary. Disinfect any footwear that may come into contact with bird faeces or, ideally, keep your own boots/shoes for your own use with your birds separately from other footwear to avoid cross contamination.
The DEFRA website avian flu pages provide a good range of guidance and advice about what to do if you suspect or find dead/sick birds. Their advice for Reporting dead wild birds is:

- one or more dead birds of prey or owls
- 3 or more dead gulls or wild waterfowl (swans, geese or ducks)
- 5 or more dead birds of any species
Do not touch or pick up any dead or visibly sick birds that you find.
